A Meissen allegorical group representing Fortune, circa 1760 The two seated female figures flanking a crowned column and emblazoned with a cartouche and trumpets, one in a green robe cradling a cornucopia overflowing with flowers, coins, and pearls; the other in a purple dress, crowned, and holding up a flower, both bedecked in pearls, the base outlined in red with rocaille moulding, 16.5cm high, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, (overpainting and spray) Footnotes: Due to the collapse of the luxury market in Saxony during the Seven Years' War (1756-63) and the takeover of the manufactory by Prussian troops under King Frederick II ('the Great'), gilding on Meissen pieces was replaced with iron-red enamel to save costs.
