A large filled copper electroplate copy for the proposed Battle of Waterloo medal designed by Benedetto Pistrucci Circa 1852 The obverse with four conjoined profile bust portraits of the Prince Regent, Francis II of Austria, Alexander I of Russia, and Frederick William III of Prussia facing sinister, the border with mythological chariot and other figures, the reverse depicting Wellington and Blücher in Roman dress on horseback guided by Victory, Jupiter in quadriga above, the border addition with a part frieze depicting the battle of the giants below, 13cm, 0.6cm deep (Qty) Footnotes: Provenance Property of a gentleman collector, Chelsea William Wellesley Pole, who served as Master of the Mint and was the elder brother of the Duke of Wellington, sought out designs from the Royal Academy for a gold medal meant to honor the leaders, generals, and senior ministers of the Alliance. However, the design that received the green light from the Prince Regent was created by Pistrucci, an engraver working at the Mint. Pistrucci played a significant role in the new coinage introduced in 1816, and it wasn't until 1819 that wax models were prepared for approval. Remarkably, it took an additional thirty years for the dies to be finished, by which time all the intended medal recipients, except for Wellington, had passed away. Ultimately, electrotype copies were produced in 1852, most of which did not feature the obverse and reverse united, unlike this particular specimen.
