A Chinese export porcelain part dinner service in the Blue Pavilion pattern Qianlong Each piece painted in rich cobalt-blue tones with characteristic pavilion in a landscape, comprising: four hot water plates, 28cm wide; two sauce boats, 18.5cm wide; a large tureen, cover and stand, the tureen: 26cm high ; two medium sized tureens with covers and stands, the tureens: 15.5cm high two small tureens and covers, one with likely replaced finial; three small oval dishes, 19cm wide; two oval salts, 10cm wide six oval serving dishes of various sizes, the largest: 44.5cm wide, one with large loss; 45 saucers, 15.5cm diameter; 43 side plates, 20cm diameter; 21 soup bowls, 24.25cm diameter; 49 dinner plates, 24.5cm diameter; 39 deeper dinner plates, 24.5cm diameter, some possibly later; a rice bowl; two Kangxi hexagonal salts, and a further two salts (227). Footnotes: It is highly likely that it was James Drummond, 8th Viscount Strathallan (1767-1851) that brought the present lot back from China when he returned to Scotland around 1807. Starting his career with the East India Company, Drummond became assistant to the Head of the Committee at Canton in 1792. He continued to climb the ranks, eventually holding the position of President in Canton for six years before returning home.
