A George II silver tankard Thomas Tearle, London 1730 The slightly tapering sides applied with reeded girdle and terminating in domed and spread circular foot, hinged domed cover apparently unmarked, the front of body with engraved armorial, height 21cm, diameter 13cm, weight 40oz. Footnotes: The arms are those of Cholmley TURNER (1685-1757) of Kirkleathan, Yorkshire and his wife Jane MARWOOD (1688-1764). They were married in 1709. Cholmley TURNER was the eldest son and heir of Charles TURNER (1652-1719) 2nd Baronet of Kirkleathan, Yorkshire by Margaret CHOLMLEY (1661-1744) daughter of Sir William CHOLMLEY (1643-1710) Baronet of Whitby and sister and coheir of Sir Hugh CHOLMLEY (1662-1665) 3rd Baronet. He was the Whig MP for Northallerton 1715-1722 and Yorkshire 1727-1747. The family were considerable landowners in Northallerton and Teeside, with extensive lead mining interests. Jane MARWOOD was the daughter of George MARWOOD (1665-1770) of Little Busby, Yorkshire by Constance SPENCER (1662-1691) daughter of Sir Thomas SPENCER (1639-1685) 3rd Baronet of Yarnton.
