Diamètre des griffes 40 cm. A noter une certaine patine et oxydation de la pièce. Pièce laissée dans son état de découverte. Pièce trouvée sur le site même de la Pointe du Hoc, dans un roncier du bord de la falaise peu de temps après les combats par Jean Beck. Celui ci étant allé revoir avec son père l'état des terres qu'ils possédaient aux environs. Pièce récupérée directement auprès de Jean Beck par Bertrand Paris le 6 mai 1991. Certificat original de Jean Beck joint ainsi qu'un dossier relatif à ce grappin. Pièce illustrée page 4 du livre 75 objets du Débarquement de Normandie. Attestation originale de provenance signée de Bertrand Paris jointe avec un exemplaire de l'ouvrage. Dans l'état de nos connaissances, ce grappin est le seul connu ayant participé aux évènements qui soit complet et dans un excellent état de conservation. Il a noter qu'il a été présenté au Président américian Ronald Reagan lors de sa visite pour les festivités du cinquantième anniversaire du Débarquement. Plusieurs copies de photos de Reagan tenant le grappin entre ses bras sont jointes au dossier. Pièce de la plus haute importance historique. Made of metal, complete with its rope attachment. A piece of rope is still present. Six grapnel claws. Height 122cm. Grapnel diameter at the claw head, 40 cm. Note some patina and oxidation on the item. The item is as found, on the very site of the Pointe du Hoc, in brambles at the cliff edge of the Pointe du Hoc after the battle. Jean Beck was checking out the state of the family farmland thereabouts with his father, and came across it. The item was then passed on directly from Jean Beck to Bertrand Paris on May 6 1991. Original certificate of Jean Beck attached along with records relating to this grapnel. Illustrated on page 4 in the book 75 Normandy Landing Objects. Original certificate of origin signed by Bertrand Paris attached with a copy in the book. As far as we know this grapnel is the only known example to have participated in the events in a complete condition and in an excellent state of conservation. He noted that it was presented to President Ronald Reagan during his visit for the commemorations of the fiftieth anniversary of D-Day.
