A FRENCH M1845 INFANTRY OFFICER’S SABER, BEFORE CHANGES IN 1855. FRANCE, CHATELLERAULT.
Sabre d’officier d’infanterie, modèle 1845.
Origin: France, 1845-1855.
Blade: steel slightly bent single edged blade a la Montmorency, with one wide fuller and one narrow next to the edge. In the place where false edge starts, wide fuller becomes narrower and one close to the edge becomes wider. Maker’s stamps on the spine: Manuf[actu]re N[ationa]le de Chatellerault.
The sword features a diagonally ribbed horn grip, with fitted gilded brass ornately scrolled guard and patterned pommel.
Scabbard of black, profiled leather scabbard with three brass silvered mounts, one with carrying ring. Top two mounts fixed to the scabbard with screws.
Total length in scabbard – 103,6 cm; without scabbard – 101 cm, length of the blade – 86,5 cm; width – 29 mm; thickness – 6 mm.
