Ink painting in a wide, wet, washed-out brush on paper darkened by age. Signature Goshun, seal Goshun. Dated ca 1781-90. Goshun was in his youth a pupil of the literati painter Yosa Buson both as a haiku poet and a painter. Only later under the influence of the realist Maruyama Ôkyo, he founded his own Shijó school of lyrical painting in Kyóto. He is considered as one of the classical artists of Japanese painting. 22.5 x 24 cm. Three little bookworm holes on the leaf study are backed up by paper. Condition 2
