Duncan Grant (British, 1885-1978) A Brace of Dead Pheasants signed and dated 'D. Grant//52' (lower right) oil on canvas 61 x 31.1 cm. (24 x 12 1/4 in.) Footnotes: Provenance With Thomas Agnew & Sons, London Sale; Sotheby's, London, 7 March 1990, lot 91 With Abbott & Holder, London, where acquired by Alastair and Jane Reid Private Collection, U.K. The pheasants painted here by Grant were almost certainly shot by Clive Bell, who took up shooting to fill the table at Charleston throughout the war years. Alastair Reid was a Bafta and Emmy winning director of television drama, known for titles such as Tales of the City and Traffik, and his wife Jane was a gifted set-designer.
