CORMAC MCCARTHY'S WRITING DESK. An antique cherrywood library desk, restored by hand by Cormac McCarthy, c. 1969-1971, in use 1971-1977, 60 x 34 x 30 inches, originally c.1930s by the Shelbyville Desk Co, Indiana, 7 drawers, 2 slides, 1 missing. Provenance: Cormac McCarthy (salvaged and restored, 1969); Anne DeLisle. MCCARTHY'S WRITING DESK FROM THE RESTORED BARN IN LOUISVILLE, TENNESSEE, carefully restored by McCarthy while working on their barn, and then used by him while writing Child of God and working on Suttree. Having purchased 30 acres of rough, wooded land in scenic Tennessee, McCarthy set about building he and Annie their dream house, while continuing to write. In the process, he salvaged this antique desk, and carefully restored it himself, before installing it in a prime location in the finished home (see photo). A wonderful reminder of McCarthy's dedication and craftsmanship and a relic from one of the great writers of the 20th-century.
