Chippendale-style Walnut Armchair, America or Europe, 19th century or later. The eared crest centering a pierced Gothic splat, flanked by pieced stiles forming raking back legs and through-tenoned by shaped, S-curve arms raised on serpentine uprights lapped over stretchers of trapezoidal slip-seat, which is joined to beaded square forelegs connected by plain stretchers and medial rail, all feet raised on later 2 1/2-inch blocks, 71cm wide, 55cm deep, 99cm high (28in wide, 22in deep, 39in high). Seat ht. 18 in. Footnotes: Clarification of original description: the arms are lapped over the side rail, or stretcher, of the seat frame, not the leg stretchers. The vertical arm supports are pieced, not the stiles. Lot to be sold without reserve.
