Italian School, 17th Century Study of a male nude attacking a female nude inscribed 'Agostino Caracci [sic.] / 647 f' (in pencil on the reverse of the sheet); on the verso, a nude seen from the back in red chalk; affixed to the reverse of the backing paper is a label from Lucien Goldschmidt, Inc., New York red chalk on hand-squared laid paper 14 x 12.3 cm (5 1/2 x 4 13/16 in). framed 39.67 x 32 x 2.5 cm. (15 3/5 x 12 3/5 x 1 in.) Footnotes: Provenance Collection of Jonathan Friedman. N.B. The graphite squaring on the paper indicates that this sketch was intended for transfer to another surface like a canvas or panel.
