Two Glass Apothecary Jars Mounted as Lamps, early 20th century. Blown-molded soda glass cylinder with flat shoulder and wide mouth sealed under molded sheet copper cover, a gold, black, and red printed label affixed to interior wall, one inscribed 'ARTEMISIA / ABSINTHIUM' (Wormwood), the other, 'HYSSOPUS / OFFICINALIS' (Hyssop), both jars filled with potpourri and modified into electric lamp bases, the fixture threaded into center of lid and through the wooden patera base, includes harp and Artemis Studios lampshades, (jar, including lid and base) diam. 5 1/2, ht. 11 in. Footnotes: Provenance The collection of Eric van Rooy. The Hyssop lamp retains sticker of Metzger's lighting store in Hartford, Connecticut, which operated c. 1950-2005.
