Classical Mahogany and Mahogany-veneered Cherry Sofa Table, attributed to Duncan Phyfe (1770-1854), New York, New York, c. 1820. Extraordinary crotch mahogany-veneered top and leaves, each supported by two cut-out ogee brackets box-hinged to outer rail of a straight apron, which contains two frieze drawers on opposing sides, a band of double-string brass inlay on bottom edge continuing over and around four corner blocks, which all retain patera pendants, the frame raised on two plinths above brass-mounted tapered columns on saber legs with acanthus-carved knees joined by a robust cross-stretcher of tapered columns centering complex ring-turned molding, all on original scroll-patterned brass casters, open, 144cm wide, 66cm deep, 71cm high (57in wide, 26in deep, 28 3/4in high).
