SIX-PANEL FOLDING SCREEN DEPICTING THREE CROWS • Japan • Edo period • Attributed to Kano Chikanobu (1660-1728) • Ink and gold on paper • The three crows perched on a snowed barren tree, bearing signature reading 'Chikanobu hitsu,' with a seal in the leftmost panel, the papered back of the screen decorated with floral patterns in silver • 68 1/2' x 100 1/2' (overall) Footnotes: Provenance: Private collection in Connecticut. OVERALL CONDITION: Fair. Numerous traces of repaired tears and retouches, a dent with tiny tears to the rightmost panel, minor buckling to some corners, spotty surface scratches and stains, the back with numerous traces of repaired tears and retouches, surface scratches particularly to the back of the rightmost panel.
