Attributed to Frederik de Moucheron (Emden 1633/1634 - Amsterdam 1686)Landscape with knightsOil on panel35,2 x 44 cmFrederik de Moucheron was initiated to study painting at Jan Asselyn's school, where he was able to develop landscape painting. Frederick must be considered among the best representatives of the so-called Italianizing landscape painters, together with Jan Asselyn, Jan Both, Adam Pynacker, Carel Dujardin, Bartholomeus Breenbergh, Herman van Swanevelt, to mention just a few. These Dutch landscape architects painted by idealizing the poetic aspect of the Italian climate and landscape, some of them without ever having personally visited the Bel Paese.
