MORTAR AND PESTLE.
China. Ming dynasty (1368-1644).

Bronze with shiny, dark brown patina. The small bowl on a flat base. Outside a continuous Arab inscription in flat relief on a structured background. Matching pestle without decoration. Height 3cm, Ø 6cm, pestle length 8cm. Condition A/B.

The unusual implement for Asia is rarely found. But two mortars and pestle made of ceramic, were part of the Sinan-ship trove and are published in: Bureau of Cultural Properties: Relics from the Seabed of Sinan. Seoul 1985. P. 47, no 47&48.

China. Ming-Dynastie (1368-1644).

Bronze mit glänzender, dunkelbrauner Patina. Die kleine Schale auf flachem Standboden. Auf der Wandung außen umlaufend eine arabische Inschrift in flachem Relief auf strukturiertem Fond. Passender Pistill, dieser undekoriert. Höhe 3cm, Ø 6cm, Pistill Länge 8cm. Zustand A/B.

Die für Asien ungewöhnliche Form findet sich selten. Zwei Mörser mit Pistill aus Keramik wurden jedoch geborgen beim Sinan-Schiffsfund und publiziert in: Bureau of Cultural Properties: Relics from the Seabed of Sinan. Seoul 1985. S. 47, Nr. 47&48.
