SURAKARTA KRIS
Iron, wood. Indonesia, Java, 19th - 20th cent.
Staight blade with wavy pamor and patches, old mendak with pearl rims, which is carved below with an elegant appendange tapering to a point one side; above crafted with a dark and elegant hilt that is bearing two sections in deep relief; the wrangka and scabbard crafted from the same wood gembol djati that is bearing rich and delicate grain, the wrangka elegantly formed and slightly curved to one side, scabbard covered with silver (or silvered) brass, leaving free an elongated section.

Gerade, mystisch charaktervolle Klinge mit wellig fließender Pamorzeichnung und Inselbildung, elegant ausschwingender Spitz nach einer Seite unterhalb des Mendak. Dieser ist alt und trägt geperlte Säume, der hölzerne Griff darüber ist dunkel und elegant gebildet, mit zwei Feldern mit vertieftem Relief. Wrangka (Scheidenschiff) und Scheide aus dem gleichen Holz, das Gembol Djati genannt wird. Die Maserung ist dicht und sehr fein, die Form des Wrangka elegant und nach einer Seite stark ausschwingend. Die Scheide ist - bis auf einen freien Streifen - mit silbernem (oder versilbertem) Blech ummantelt.
