BUDDHA SEATED IN BHUMIAPARSA MUDRA
Bronze. Burma/Myanmar, in the style of Mandalay, 19th cent.
A massive bronze of the princely juvenile Buddha, seated in padmasana on a stepped base with one hand held in the bhumisparsha mudra, very delicate formed arms and hands with one finger raised, wearing samghati characteristically pleated in the Mandalay-style, particular impressive face displaying somewhat melancholic, mild-serene expression, high ushnisha topped of a lotus bud rendered in the typical Mandalay style; with dark olive brown patina, minor wear, somewhat corroded due to age to lower area of base.

Bronze. Burma/Myanmar, Mandalay-Stil, 19. Jh.
Schwere Bronze, die den Buddha als prinzenhaften Jüngling darstellt. Er sitzt in Padmasana (Lotussitz) auf einer gestuften Basis und hält eine Hand im Gestus der Bhumisparsha Mudra, der „Erdberührung“ - Buddha ruft die Erdgöttin Bhumidevi zur Zeugenschaft an. Arm und Hand sind elegant gebildet, ein Finger ist leicht erhoben, der Faltenwurf - insbesondere an der Samghati - ist für den Mandalay-Stil sehr typisch. Beeindruckend sind die klaren, doch leicht lancholischen oder wie verträumten Gesichtszüge! Der hohe Ushnisha ohne Lotusknospe ist ebenso für die Darstellungsweise der Mandalay-Epoche bezeichnend. Dunkle olivbraune Patina, Bestoßungen bzw. etwas altersbedingte Korrosion im untersten Sockelbereich.
