Fire gilt bronze. Nepal, 20th cent.
Elaborate redition, cast with Yamantaka, here shown in his manifestation as Vajrabhairava; Yamantaka with principle bull head with horns, and 9 further heads, he is surrounded by 34 arms and 16 legs; the upper head depicting the Bodhisattva Manjushri, all hand holding attributes; he is shown in sexual union with his tantric partner, holding skull and axe; Dharmapala standing on a variety of animals interspersed of Hindu deities that include Ganesha, Garuda and Shiva (manifested as nandi); mounted on lotus base, and surrounded by flaming nimbus; patina, minor dam to plug, and vishvavajra.

Eine sehr komplexe Darstellung, die den Todesbesieger Yamantaka darstellt, hier aber in der besonderen Form als Vajrabhairava, "der Schreckliche mit dem Vajra". Yamantaka hat gehörnten Stierkopf, insgesamt 9 Köpfe, 34 Arme (links 7, rechts 8 speichenförmig doppelreihig und vier vorne) sowie 16 Beine. Der oberste Kopf ist der des Bodhisattva Manjushri. Vajrabhairava ist Schutzpatron des Gelugpa-Ordens. Die vielen Attribute anzugeben würde zu weit führen, die tantrische Partnerin, mit der er sich in sexueller Union befindet, hält - so wie auch er vorne - Schädelschale und Hackmesser. Der Dharmapala steht auf einer Vielzahl von Tieren, zwischen diesen ehrfürchtige Hindu-Gottheiten, darunter auch Ganesha (Elefant), Garuda (Vogel) und Shiva (als Stier Nandi). Das ganze Ensemble auf Lotusbasis, flammender Nimbus. Patina, leicht defekter Verschluß mit Vishvavajra.
