ENTEN, FELS UND PRUNUSTusche und Farben auf Seide. Korea, Choson, 19. Jh.Ein Entenpaar befindet sich im untersten Bild schwimmend im Wasser. Beide Tiere, das eine weiblich, das vordere männlich, rudern und fischen. Über den Enten ragt ein steiler Fels mit spitzen Zacken schräg empor, unterhalb von ihm wächst Bambus, auf ihm ragt blühendes Prunusgezweig weiter in die Höhe. Die Komposition ist sehr geschickt gestaltet, der Gegensatz zwischen dem mehr geruhsam Rundlich-Weichen der Vögel und dem scharfkantig Hochschiessenden des Felsens verleiht der Malerei Spannung. Beide Enten haben wiederum die reizvolle Eigenheit, in Details weitgehend naturalistisch zu sein, zugleich aber auch mit sehr eigen stilisierten, künstlerischen Manierismen aufzuwarten. Die Vertikale, vor allem von Fels und Gezweig dominiert, wird von der zweireihigen Inschrift links oben, die in chinesischen Zeichen gemalt und teils kalligraphisch abgekürzt ist, fortgesetzt. Above the ducks is a steeply rising rock cliff with sharp points under which bamboo is growing and upon which a blossoming plum tree branch rises. The composition is very adeptly designed; the contrast between the more unhurried, round, soft quality of the birds and the sharp-edged upward movement of the cliff gives the painting a sense of excitement. Both ducks are to a large extent very naturalistic in their details, but at the same time very distinctly stylised. The vertical, dominated above all by the rock cliff and the branches, is continued on the upper left by the doublerow inscription which is painted in Chinese symbols and partially shortened in calligraphy.
