DER ORDENSGRÜNDER PADMASAMBHAVABronze. Tibet, 19. Jh.Bronze eines sitzenden Padmasambhava auf Lotussockel. Padmasambhava (wörtl. der „Lotusgeborene“) war im späteren 8. Jh. auf Einladung des Königs nach Tibet gekommen, um sein Amt als „Geisterbezwinger“ auszuführen. Er trägt eine Mitra auf seinem Kopf und hält eine Khatvanga (abnehmbar), hier mit drei Schädeln an dessen Spitze, sowie der Amrita-Vase des „Langen Lebens“, in einer Hand und einem Vajra in der anderen. Ein interessantes Stück, insbesondere sein grimmiges Gesicht.HÖHE 18,5 CMAus einer Wiener Sammlung-PADMASAMBHAVABronze. Tibet, 19th cent.Bronze sculpture of Padmasambhava seated on a lotus pedestal. Padmasambhava (lit. the “lotus-born”), came to Tibet in the 8th century upon the invitation of the king, in order to subdue the demonic forces in the area. He wears a mitra on his head and holds a khatvanga (can be dismounted), here with three skulls at the top, and also the amrita vase, filled with the nectar of longevity, in one hand and a vajra in the other.
