KISHI CHIKUDO (1826–1897): PFAU UND SPATZENMalerei auf Seide. Japan, 19. Jh.Wirkungsvoll im Mittelpunkt der auf Kiefernast sitzende Vogel, der dem Betrachter seinen Rücken zuwendet und somit die ganze Pracht seines bis an das untere Bildende fallenden Federnkleides sehen läßt. Im Japanischen Kujaku genannt, ist er auch das Emblem der Gottheit Kujaku Myo-o. Der Kopf ist zur Seite gedreht, auf ihm ein kecker Schopf. Sehenswert auch die Komposition von Stamm und Ästen der Kiefer mit sich kreuzenden Diagonalen quer durch das ganze Bild. Dieses groß Inszenierte konterkarieren auf amüsante Weise zwei Spatzen, einer schaut neugierig hinterm Stamm hervor, der andere fliegt. Rechts unten Signatur CHIKU-DO 竹 堂 und rotes Siegel. In Japanese called kujaku, it is the emblem of the deity Kujaku Myo-o. The head is in profile and flaunts a bold crest. Also particularly lovely is the composition of pine trunk and branches with diagonals crossing over the entire picture field. This large painting stages humorously the counteraction of two sparrows, one peeking curiously from behind the tree, the other flying.
