A GUYUE XUAN ‘PEACOCK’ ENAMELED GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE WITH A ‘PEACH’ MARK White opaque glass with painted multicolor enamels. China, 1770-1840The bottle is delicately painted with a continuous scene of a peacock perched on a rock above flowering branches and beneath a pine tree. The base has a painted ‘peach’ mark in multicolored enamels. The peacock kong que or ‘heavenly phoenix on earth’ stands for dignity, beauty and fame. Unlike the pheasant, it is a rare subject to be found on enameled Chinese glass snuff bottles.
