A 'SUZHOU' AGATE SNUFF BOTTLE Chalcedony, the stone of a pale translucent gray with dark brown inclusions, even smooth polish. China, 1750-1820Suzhou School. Unusual depiction of Meng Haoran carrying a prunus branch and following his attendant who is riding on an ox, one shoulder carved with meandering rockwork and fungus, the reverse featuring a cottage amidst dominating rockwork, more fungus and a pine tree. The dark inclusions meticulously used to highlight the dramatic essence of the scene.Shape: Flattened globular formHollowing: ExcellentMouth, neck and lip: Slightly tapered neck, the mouth concaveBase: Slightly convex (almost flat) oval footStopper: Of the period, possibly matching.
