China, 18th-19th centuryThe opaque material showing a variety of green and red shades, which seem to co-exist in almost perfect harmony, clearly explaining why the vernacular term for this material has always been “bloodstone” - the "classic" bloodstone being green jasper (chalcedony) with red inclusions of hematite.
