Ethnographica & tribal art auctions

Tribal art from indigenous peoples of Africa, North and South America, Asia and Oceania has become a sought-after sector of the antiques market.

With a wide geographical and historical spread of items, this sector includes works ranging from ancient sculptures from sub-Saharan Africa to artefacts from indigenous American peoples to South Pacific masks, clubs, arrows and artwork.

High craftsmanship and decorative quality but also historical and social context make these items perfect for collectability. While the market for pre-Columbian works - art from the Americas from before the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1492 - has grown strongly since specialised tribal art and ethnology auctions began in the 1970s, the field also includes works from Australia, New Zealand, Polynesia and Indonesia. Thus, for the interested collector, there will certainly be something to be found at Lot-tissimo in the ethnology auctions.
