McLean VBD, pp.104-107], 8vo, Longman, 1848 (6) Footnotes: Six variant publisher's bindings used for Humphreys' Maxims & Precepts, including decorated morocco, calf, cloth and paper boards. Two copies in coloured papers (one over morocco, one over boards) are described as 'being in the style of the 'Opus Anglicum' of the tenth and eleventh centuries, based on a the 'border in a manuscript copy of The Gospels executed for King Cnut' (note on index leaf). Humphreys, in the illuminations of this work, introduced 'some of the brilliantly coloured birds and flowers that had only recently been discovered - such as the Lilium Superbum... as well as Toucans, Macaws, Kingfishers...'
