A large Egyptian bronze crown of Harpocrates Late Period-Ptolemaic Period, circa 664-30 B.C. with traces of gilding, 13cm high Footnotes: Provenance: with Roswitha Eberwein, Germany, prior to 2000. Property from a Princely Collection, acquired from the above at BAAF in June 2004. The bronze statue of which this crown was once a part must have been of an impressive scale; cf. a 36cm high bronze figure of Harpocrates at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, acc. no. 44.4.7. The present lot depicts the Double Crown of Upper and Lower Egypt, though the Red Crown's front spiral is now missing. The frontal uraeus and sidelock of youth that once adorned this crown appear to originally have been separately made and attached, as attested by the distinctive apertures at the front and side.
