Duncan Grant (British, 1885-1978) Baffle Board II signed and dated 'D Grant/69' (lower right) oil on shaped panel 101.7 x 106.7 cm. (40 x 42 in.) Footnotes: Provenance Sir Harry and Lady Lintott Sale; Christie's, London, 5 November 1999, lot 8 With Crane Kalman Gallery, London, 5 June 2002; where acquired by Lord Richard and Lady Sheila Attenborough Their sale; Sotheby's, London, 11 November 2009, lot 50 (part) Private Collection, U.K. The present and preceding lot were painted as decorations to cover two large loudspeakers, a commission from Grant's Sussex neighbours, the diplomat Sir Harry Lintott and his wife Margaret. They are believed to be unique and were painted at Charleston. Grant has designed the Baffle Boards so that they can be displayed either freestanding or wall hung.
