Cecil Beaton (British, 1904-1980) A study of a costume design for Katharine Hepburn as Gabrielle Chanel for the 1969 Broadway musical Coco Full-length Ink wash with watercolour 35.2 x 27.8cm (13 7/8 x 10 15/16in). Footnotes: Provenance The Hon. Stephen Tennant. Sotheby's, Wiltshire, The Contents of Wilsford Manor, Wilsford Manor, 14-15 October 1987, where purchased. Coco was the 1969 Broadway musical which immortalised Chanel's story. Cecil Beaton designed both the set and costumes for the production. The costumes were all inspired by Chanel's couture from across her career. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: AR AR Goods subject to Artists Resale Right Additional Premium.
