A PAIR OF GEORGIA O'KEEFFE LETTERS TO AMALIA DE SCHULTHESS. O'KEEFFE, GEORGIA. 1887-1986. Autograph Letter Signed ('Georgia O'Keeffe'), 1 p, 4to, Albuquerque, NM, February 25, 1955, to 'Dear Lady of the Rocks.' WITH: Autograph Note Signed ('Georgia O'Keeffe'), 1 p, 4to, October 12, 1954, to Victor White inviting him to her studio, with original autograph transmittal envelope. Leaves creased, very mild toning. Artist Victor White introduced Amalia de Schulthess to Georgia O'Keeffe in 1954, as the short note confirms. The later letter is written directly to de Schulthess, whom O'Keeffe calls the 'Dear Lady of the Rocks.' O'Keeffe apologizes for not having written sooner, and thanks de Schulthess for the gift of a small sculpture. In part: 'Your black piece is very fine on the table with a couple of very realistic big bugs—dragonflies or what not— that I got in North Africa. They are very pretty together.' In a postscript, O'Keeffe asks de Schulthess is she is returning to New Mexico the following summer.
