A Regency birds' eye maple and ebony line-inlaid writing box Fixed on a late Victorian birds' eye maple and ebonised moulded stand The box circa 1810; the stand 1885-1905; the hinged top inlaid with a central brass plaque engraved with the initials: 'J.C.B.', enclosing a fold-over leather inset writing surface and various stationery compartments, above a concealed lockable cedar lined drawer to one side, on slender ring turned legs with slightly splayed terminations, with a paper label inscribed: 'Richardson... P..(?)k..', approximately: 46cm wide x 29.5cm deep x 86cm high, (18in wide x 11 1/2in deep x 33 1/2in high) Footnotes: Provenance Purchased by the current owner and vendor, Bonhams, London, The Gentleman's Library Sale, January 2006, Lot 25.
