Mahogany and Poplar Writing Table or Chiffonier, probably New York, New York, early 19th century. Mahogany top with round front corners projecting slightly over conforming quarter-engaged columns with four stacked ring-turnings flanking the mahogany-veneered case of three flush-mounted drawers, the two narrow drawers containing fitted compartments and an easel-form writing surface with tooled leather cover, over medial shelf surrounded by blocked and turned legs, those in front continuing from stiles and finely reeded, above turned spindle feet mounted on later casters, 55cm wide, 43cm deep, 76cm high (22 3/4in wide, 17in deep, 30 1/2in high).
