Jamini Roy (Indian, 1887-1972) Untitled (Mrig Darshan) printed lower right and edition 196/500 lower left serigraph on paper 35.3 x 52cm (13 7/8 x 20 1/2in). Footnotes: Provenance Archer Graphic Studio, Ahmedabad Known for his unique artistic style that drew inspiration from indigenous and folk art traditions and stories, Roy depicted various subjects and themes in his works throughout his career. Mrig Darshan or Mrig Chitrakala is story from the Ramayana. Sita requested Lord Ram to capture this beautiful golden deer for her. It was a stunning deer with skin like gold. In this work, Roy has portrayed the protagonists of this story in his characteristic highly stylized and simplified manner.
