c.1940 Harley Davidson 750cc 'WLD' Registration no. YSU 696 Frame no. none Engine no. none (see text) In 1937, the WLD was launched which used the side valve engine which became a staple of the Harley-Davidson lineup and was used in the iconic WLA throughout the war. Although it was slightly less glamorous than the OHV EL, the WL was a great success and was even used for racing in Class C flat track racing which the AMA launched and Harley produced the WLDR and WR models. The WLD was usually referred to as a Special Sport Solo which meant it had a higher compression ratio but a shorter wheelbase and lighter however the styling was still kept of that iconic EL with the sweeping lines of the mudguards and petrol tank. Purchased by the vendor in 1999, the machine was briefly started, but never ridden due to the foot clutch operation system and was swiftly placed into storage ever since. Requiring careful recommissioning before returning to the road, the engine turns over. Last taxed in 1993 and currently displaying 1,951 miles to the odometer, it is offered with a V5C, copy V5 and copy of an old MoT. It should be noted that at the time of cataloguing, it had not been possible to identify the exact model due to the absence of an engine number, therefore prospective bidders must satisfy themselves as to the originality, correctness, condition and model of motorcycle before bidding. Key not required Footnotes: All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding.
