Edward Seago, RWS, RBA (British, 1910-1974) 'Pack Ice Antarctica' signed 'Edward Seago' (lower left) and inscribed with title (verso) watercolour with traces of pencil 25.7 x 35.6cm (10 1/8 x 14in). Footnotes: Provenance With Richard Hagen Fine Paintings, Worcestershire. Private Collection, UK (purchased from the above on 29 November 1982). It is believed that Seago produced this work whilst accompanying the HRH Duke of Edinburgh on his world tour aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia in 1956-57. The Duke invited Seago on his return voyage from Australia which would take them through the Antarctic Peninsula. Whilst aboard the yacht, Seago completed over 60 paintings, and the Duke being a keen amateur artist would often set up his own portable easel and work alongside him. Seago captured one of these moments in his painting 'HRH The Duke of Edinburgh painting on the deck of HMY Britannia' 1956-57, which is held in the Royal Collection Trust (cat nos. 90-91).
