K.H Ara, was a significant figure in the Indian art scene. A founder member of the Progressive Artists' Group (PAG) in the 1940s, Ara's work remained deeply rooted in his experiences and observations of everyday life. He was particularly drawn to the human form, capturing the essence of his subjects with remarkable sensitivity and depth. In Untitled (Girl with Braid), Ara has captured the softness and purity of youth. At the heart of the composition is a young girl with a braid cascading down her back. She is facing away from the viewer and is looking through the curtains. Directly behind her stands a table with fruits, and a fruit bowl. Through his expert use of colour and brushwork, Ara captures the softness and purity of youth, infusing the painting with a warm, luminous quality. The delicate interplay of light and shadow adds depth and dimension to the composition, enhancing the sense of realism and presence.
