Footnotes: The inscription on the reverse is somewhat indistinct, but reads: 'From an original painting of Jameson 1687 in the possession of -- Carnegie Town Clerk of Aberdeen. copied by Mr Wales of Aberdeen for David Stewart Earl of Buchan A.D. 1779. The original of this copy was famously in the possession of Mr Thomson of ---' The original of this work is now held in the collection of the Aberdeen Art Gallery.
