A Japanese Meiji period mother of pearl and ivory inlaid lacquer panel inset and rosewood shodana late 19th/early 20th century Profusely carved with dragons, birds, fish, flowers and foliage, the lacquer panels variously decorated with assorted male and female figures including a warrior holding a bow with a quiver of arrows on his back and a mother holding her young son alongside a monkey and a hen, various birds, butterflies, insects and flowers, the shodana incorporating two pairs of sliding panels, two pairs of panelled doors, three short drawers and two single panelled doors, on a shaped low stand with in-scrolled ends, a pierced apron and carved overall with chrysanthemum, flowers, birds and foliage, 138cm wide x 47cm deep x 213cm high, (54in wide x 18 1/2in deep x 83 1/2in high) Footnotes: A comparable Meiji period shodana to the present lot, of similar configuration and proportions, sold Christie's, South Kensington, 27 September 2011, Style and Spirit, lot 25.
