A Japanese Meiji period mother of pearl and ivory inlaid lacquer panel inset and rosewood shodana late 19th/early 20th century Profusely carved with dragons, birds, fish, flowers and foliage, the lacquer panels variously decorated with assorted male and female figures including a warrior holding a bow with a quiver of arrows on his back and a mother holding her young son alongside a monkey and a hen, various birds, butterflies, insects and flowers, the shodana incorporating two pairs of sliding panels, two pairs of panelled doors, three short drawers and two single panelled doors, on a shaped low stand with in-scrolled ends, a pierced apron and carved overall with chrysanthemum, flowers, birds and foliage, 138cm wide x 47cm deep x 213cm high, (54in wide x 18 1/2in deep x 83 1/2in high) Footnotes: A comparable Meiji period shodana to the present lot, of similar configuration and proportions, sold Christie's, South Kensington, 27 September 2011, Style and Spirit, lot 25. The item within this lot containing ivory has been registered in accordance with the Ivory Act (Section 10) Ref UQ2LNWSQ.
