A late 19th/early 20th century carved alabaster figure of Paolina Borghese as Venus Victrix (Venus Victorious) after Antonio Canova (Italian, 1757-1822) the semi-nude figure clad in drapery and reclining on a cushioned classical chaise, the front with fringed drapery, 46cm high, 56cm wide, 18cm deep approximately Footnotes: Paolina Bonaparte was the most popular and eligible of Napoleon's siblings. Her first husband, a high officer of the revolution died just a few months after their marriage. Paolina then married Prince Camillo Borghese, who commissioned the sculpture of his new wife. This portrait, executed between 1804 and 1808, was modelled by Canova to evoke The Venus Victrix.
