Labib Tadros (Egypt 1894-1943) Fellah's House oil on canvas, framed signed 'L Tadros' (lower left), executed circa 1950s 69 x 53cm (27 3/16 x 20 7/8in). Footnotes: Provenance: Property from the Zulficar family collection, Alexandria Location: London, Bonhams, 101 New Bond Street Tadros' 'Fellah's House' transports us into a modest abode, where we witness the daily life of an Egyptian farming family. The scene is a vivid tableau of simple pleasures and quiet dignity. The warm earthy tones of the interior evoke a sense of coziness and comfort, while the soft play of light and shadow hints at the passage of time. The family depicted exudes a genuine sense of contentment, cherishing the bonds of kinship and the fruits of their labor. Many artists, like Tadros, have turned their attention to the countryside as a wellspring of inspiration. This thematic focus reflects a desire to reconnect with Egypt's agrarian roots and pays homage to the backbone of the nation - its hardworking farmers. Labib Tadros remains a forgotten master of Egyptian art, overshadowed by more celebrated contemporaries like Mahmoud Said. Despite moving in the same artistic circles and creating works of equal skill and significance, Tadros's legacy has largely remained under the radar, awaiting rediscovery and recognition for his profound contributions to the world of Egyptian art. The first-generation Egyptian painter Labib Tadros (1894–1950) was born into a wealthy Coptic family from Sohag, Tadros took up painting relatively late and in a self-taught way. He is known in particular for landscapes and portraits of peasants. In the 1930s, he was joined in his studio by his friend, the painter Sanad Basta (1903–1964), who, like him came from a Coptic family of landowners.
