Maxime Adam-Tessier (French, 1920-2000) La Normande monogrammed marble 33.9cm (13 3/8in) high. Footnotes: Provenance The collection of Theo Waddington, London. In his early years, Adam-Tessier experimented different forms of art including sculpture, engraving, drawing and painting. The artist settled in Paris in 1940 and moved a few years later in the workshop on rue Schoelcher, where he lived and worked until the end of his life. After World War II, Adam-Tessier worked on different projects including restoring churches and chapels but his main interest was always sculpting. In the late 1950s, Adam-Tessier met Victor Waddington during a trip in London. The art dealer organised his first solo exhibition in 1960 and introduced him to fellow artists in the UK.
