Three Byzantine sgraffiato pottery vessels Eastern Mediterranean, 12th Century comprising a splashware chalice of squat form on a long splayed foot decorated in ochre and green on a cream ground, a roundel containing incised vegetal and lozenge motifs to the well, the exterior and interior walls with bands of incised vegetal and zig-zag design; a small bowl of rounded form on a short foot, decorated in pale green glaze, with two incised stripes to the rim; and a fragment of a splashware dish on a short foot, decorated in dark green and ochre on a cream ground, the well with a central incised roundel containing a flowerhead surrounded by vegetal motifs and concentric circles the largest 12.9 cm. diam., 10.8 cm. high(3) Footnotes: Provenance The collection of the late Terence Mullaly. Terence Mullaly (1927-2020) was an art historian, journalist, lecturer and broadcaster who specialised in Italian art with a particular interest in the Veronese and Venetian schools, but whose collecting taste was wide-ranging. He was art critic for the Daily Telegraph (1958-1986) as well as contributing to Apollo and Burlington Magazine.
