Le Bel, 40 engraved plates, contemporary calf, spine gilt tooled with gilt morocco title and volume labels, neatly rebacked preserving original spines with spine ends refurbished [Crowley 763; Garrison-Morton 3671; PMM 186; Poletti, p.72; Weinberger, p.48; Waller 10620], 8vo, Paris, Jean Mariette, 1728 Footnotes: VERY RARE FIRST EDITION OF THE FOUNDING WORK ON MODERN DENTISTRY. 'Before Fauchard's time the profession of dentistry was truly a 'mystery', for its practitioners had steadfastly refrained from publishing details of their technique and equipment. Fauchard summarized in his pages with numerous illustrations all that was best in the practice of his day and disclosed what had been hitherto jealously guarded secrets.
