One of the first woman lawyers in the U.S., she was also the first eligible woman to run for president in both 1884 and 1888 as a member of the new National Equal Rights Party. Lockwood campaigned ceaselessly for women's suffrage and equal rights, and was a delegate to the International Peace Conference in 1890. Another version of this card describes her as a presidential nominee and has rousing text and her campaign symbol of flag in a globe on the reverse.
