TWO COPPER ALLOY FIGURES OF DANCING KRISHNA AND DEVI SOUTH INDIA, TAMIL NADU, CHOLA PERIOD, 12TH/13TH CENTURY Dancing Krishna: 4 1/2 in. (11.4 cm) high; Lakshmi: 5 1/2 in. (14 cm) high (2) Footnotes: 印度南部 泰米爾納德 朱羅王朝 十二/十三世紀 克里希納及女神銅像 The four-armed goddess wears a Saivite headdress and holds a mirror and a lotus in her upper hands. She, therefore, likely represents Shiva's spouse Parvati in her aspect as Gauri, the Fair Lady, who is a favorite deity of those desiring prosperity and riches. Compare the figural modelling and quality of these two figures with miniature Chola sculptures of Parvati and Shiva with his Bull in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (M.72.1.13 & M.86.249.1; Pal, Indian Sculpture, Vol. II, 1988, pp. 270 & 280, nos. 142a & 148.
