Berlin: Johann Friedrich Unger, 1795-1796. 4 volumes, 12mo (148 x 90 mm). 7 (of 8 as often) folding music scores. 19th century morocco gilt, spine evenly faded, gilt edges. FIRST EDITION of Goethe's second novel which had a tremendous influence on European literature. The work contains some of Goethe's best-known songs accompanied by music scores. Volumes 1-3 with 'W. Meisters Lehrj.' on first leaf of each gathering.
