This portrait is based on the painting by Anthony van Dyck of Jan van den Wouver (Joannes Woverius) (Antwerp 1574-1638), who was a diplomat and advisor to Archdukes Albrecht and Isabelle in Brussels. He was a good friend of Peter Paul Rubens and is depicted in Rubens's The Four Philosophers (1611-12).
