Federal Mahogany Sofa, Massachusetts, c. 1800-10. Square back joins ogee wings forming arm rests raised on reeded stiles and curving over vertical supports in the form of tapered fluted columns, the tops intaglio-carved with acanthus leaves, these mounted on inlay paneled blocked and turned front legs, which join rectangular seat rail reed-molded along front and returns, supported in the center by two additional urn- and baluster-turned legs and at the back by four ogee legs, all eight being raised on casters, not examined under later upholstery, which includes two matching bolsters and four pillows, 198cm wide, 63cm deep, 88cm high (78 1/2in wide, 25in deep, 35in high).
