Mirror in Spectacular Gilt Composition Frame, Cottier & Co. (retailer, 1873-1915), New York, New York, c. 1910. Broad rectangular frame relief-molded with attenuated ogee scrolls continuing to fleur-de-lys at the corners, between back and inside edges molded with contrasting foliate motifs, sight edge lined with cyma molding around the 54 1/2 x 34-inch aperture containing later mirror glass, a paper label of Cottier & Co. affixed to reverse indicating original use as a frame for the painting Sunset, Venezia by William Gedney Bunce (1840-1916), a native of Hartford, Connecticut, 170cm wide, 5cm deep, 119cm high (67in wide, 2in deep, 47in high).
